“Your low back and pelvis are the foundation of the spine. They are the biggest and strongest bones in your spine, and that’s not by accident. Gravity, your body weight, your posture,” says Dr. David Adler. “All those things just crash down onto your low back, leading to that lower back pain and discomfort.”
The answer shouldn’t be pain-relieving pills that make you forget the pain for a few hours. In fact, you may have seen in the news the recent opioid epidemic the United States is facing. The medical community and federal government are seeking answers on how to treat their patients without these drugs. The answer they seek is chiropractic care, and correcting the mis-alignments and subluxations causing that lower back pain.
Occasional lower back pain might seem like a nuisance rather than a serious problem, but this pain can become much more severe without treatment. Over time, you might have trouble sitting, standing, and lying down without considerable lower back pain. Before that happens, make your appointment at Adler Family Chiropractic.
Dr. Adler is currently accepting low back pain patients from Roswell, Cumming, Johns Creek, Norcross, Sandy Springs, Marietta, Alpharetta, and North Fulton County, Georgia.
Lower Back Pain & Sciatica: Questions and Answers
by Dr. David N. Adler, DC
Before we can answer any questions, there are some terms you need to know. Dr. Adler specializes in the detection and correction of the “Vertebral Subluxation Complex.” Vertebral subluxation is a condition where spinal vertebrae are not in the correct alignment and create changes in the ability of the nervous system to communicate with the rest of the body clearly both from the brain to the body and the body back to the brain. This causes a less than optimal function and adaptability of the body.
Someone told me I have Sciatica. What’s that?
Sciatica is a very misused term. Low back pain is not sciatica. It refers to pain that develops when the sciatic nerve is irritated. It is the biggest and longest nerve in the body, and since it runs through your lower back, flank, hip, thigh, and lower leg, you might have pain in one, two or even all of these areas. You may also have pain in none! Sciatic pain might occur as radiating pain that comes from your lower back and travels down your leg, but it can also jump down into your feet with no pain anywhere else.
At Adler Family Chiropractic, Dr. Adler does treat sciatica, but he’ll also perform a thorough examination to determine if what “Dr. Google” told you about sciatica is true in your case.
I’m healthy; why do I have lower back pain?
There are a variety of sources for low back pain. It’s important to find the underlying cause. Dr. Adler will examine you to determine the source, which could be:
- A facet problem
- A herniated disc
- Sprains and/or strains muscles and/or ligaments
- Trauma and repetitive stress injuries (RSI)
- And a lot more …
You can also develop low back pain from an imbalance in your lower extremities, such as your hip or knee. Dr. Adler is a highly trained and experienced extremity adjuster and will work that into your care plan if needed.
How does Dr. Adler treat lower back pain?
Dr. Adler develops a treatment plan for you that will specifically address your needs, depending on the source of your pain and its severity.
Your treatment plan will likely include a combination of exercises and chiropractic adjustment to remove subluxations and optimize alignment and function. If you have a herniated disc or facet problem, Dr. Adler makes adjustments to correct these issues. These adjustments often result in pain relief and a lower chance of having that low back pain come back. Dr. Adler uses a special technique called Cox Flexion and Distraction, which is the industry standard for low back pain, and is backed by a tremendous amount of research.
In addition, Dr. Adler will spend time re-educating you on simple activities of daily life, like proper technique at the gym, or the best way to pick up heavy boxes and squat down to the ground.
